Veterans Affairs (VA) Program
The VA Program offers in-home care for veterans — home and community-based services that help veterans continue living in their own homes, with comprehensive assistance for Activities of Daily Living.

How In-Home Care for Veterans Works
Getting started usually begins with a conversation with DON Services. From there, we can help you understand what’s needed — typically a referral from your VA doctor confirming you require in-home care, followed by connecting with your county’s Area Agency on Aging (Butler AAA or Lawrence County Options, depending on where you live). Once that’s in place, you can choose DON Services as your care provider.
You don’t have to navigate this alone — reach out and we’ll walk you through it.
Who Qualifies for In-Home Care for Veterans?
You may qualify for Veteran-Directed Care if you:
- Are enrolled in VA health care
- Are eligible for VA community care
- Need help with daily activities, such as bathing, dressing, or preparing meals, as determined by your VA care team
Availability varies by location, so talk with your VA social worker to find out if the program is offered where you live. Final eligibility is decided by the VA, and a copay may apply depending on your service-connected disability status. Not sure where you stand? Give us a call — we’ll help you figure it out.
